Our fitness editor used Runna for 16 weeks to train for her fifth marathon and ended up taking 14 minutes off her PR, but most importantly, she got to the startline injury free. This isn't an app for runners who just want to track their running progress - it's built around following a training plan. You can also easily download the sessions onto your running watch, as the app easily syncs with Garmin, Coros, and Apple Watches. ![]() Other apps like Strava also allow you to track your fitness goals using a mobile device.During testing, we were impressed with the easy-to-use interface, and how the app breaks training down into easy-to-understand sessions. Map My Run is a great way to track your runs if you can’t afford an expensive fitness device. This app runs on iOS and requires version 11.0 or later. If you get tired and need a break, you can hit pause and restart it when you’re ready to continue. You can also play music on your exercise routine the app will keep running in the background. The app comes with a camera system so that you can take snaps en-route. During your run, you can switch between a map and detailed information showing distances and pace. The app uses Google maps and can easily replace most expensive fitness devices because of this. You can even set up an alert system that will update you at each mile or programmed marker you want to track. There’s an option to activate voice prompts while you’re running, so you don’t have to keep checking the screen. However, the upgraded paid version allows you to access various training programs and gets rid of all the advertisements. The free trial is very limited and packed with ads. This is a little detail that alternatives don’t share. ![]() You can connect with friends and chat using the app, sharing running tips and route information as you go. Rerun the same route at a later stage and compare your results. This includes speed, elevation, and the route you run. Map my Run allows you to record runs and save the information.
